Bonfire Night is a very English celebration, looking back into history to the Gunpowder Plot and famous bad guy Guy Fawkes. Firework displays have become the way to celebrate the occasion and as fireworks get more complicated and more amazing, so too do the various organised displays around the county. Here in North Devon, we have a number of great firework displays to attend.
Bonfire Fireworks Party – The Big Sheep Farm, Abbotsham
Many of you may have visited The Big Sheep to meet the farmyard animals and enjoy the fun events that take place there. One of their big annual events is their Bonfire Fireworks Party, taking place on 5th November this year. Grab your hats, gloves and scarfs and enjoy a spectacular display as well as a massive bonfire. Guests can bring along their own Guy and the winner will get to light the bonfire.
As well as the fireworks, there is also a mini street food fest including the Big Pot Kitchen with sausages and potatoes, wood fire pizzas from Pig and Olive and even Brazilian cuisine including churros and a Brazilian BBQ. If you like something a little more traditional, there is also Cornish Crepes and a Hog roast as well as local burgers and hot dogs for the kids. For those with a sweet tooth, there will also be candy floss, popcorn and toffee apples.
The indoor play area will also be open for the kids so if they find the fireworks a little scary or simply are drawn by the promise of slides and swings, then they can use it instead.
Doors open at 5pm, junior fireworks at 6pm, bonfire lit at 7pm and main event at 7:45pm.
Barnstaple Round Table Fireworks – Barnstaple RFC
The Barnstaple Round Table Fireworks display will once again take place in the Barnstaple RFC ground on Mill Road. Weather permitting, the event will include a bonfire and plenty of startling fireworks. There will also be refreshments and a bar for the adults.
